Why am I a mathematician?

What I love most about mathematics is to find clean problems with precise solutions. This is elegance in its utmost form for me. What attracts me towards dynamical systems is that I can (most of the time, but not always) formulate problems in clear, simple statements. Do not mistake me: usually these clear statements in every day language involves tones of technical terms to be properly formulate, and this transition between “hard core” mathematical language and our everyday words fascinates me. This also makes that (sometimes, but not always) the solutions of these problems can be described in elegant terms. I did my PhD to see this: clean problems with elegant solutions. That doesn’t mean that I do not value the professional aspects of my profession. On the contrary: the choice of problems is very difficult as there are so many beautiful problems and so little time in just one lifetime. Choosing problems that are highly appreciated by the international community is as much for the sake my career as it is for helping me to focus.
